Powering Our Sustainability

Here in Maine, we all value our forests, open land, sea, and fresh air. We know it is up to us to protect them. The State has set ambitious carbon reduction goals to reduce greenhouse gases and we must all examine how our activities can evolve to support these goals. As we consider the next 25 years, CMP will redesign day-to-day business practices, integrate more renewable energy to the grid, and do what we can to support the beneficial electrification of society. We’re proud to support the state’s vision for a clean energy Maine. Here are just some of the steps we’re taking now alongside our neighbors, with more to come.

How we’re powering on to a cleaner Maine

Electric Vehicles

We’re investing in a fleet of electric vehicles for CMP workers with plans to electrify our entire light-duty fleet by 2030.

Electric Vehicle Charging Program

Our electric vehicle charging station program plans to install electric vehicle charging across the state, allowing Mainers to travel like never before.

Electric Bucket Lifts

A number of our service trucks now have electric bucket lifts to prevent idling. This means zero emissions as they repair power lines and perform other day-to-day tasks.

Rooftop Solar Connections

We’ve completed over 5,000 solar rooftop installations, aiding residents and businesses as they make moves toward a sustainable future.

Community Solar Connections

Maine will bring hundreds of new solar generators onto the grid in the next few years — bringing renewable energy to homes of all kinds.

Wind Farm Connections

As wind energy develops in Maine we will work to ensure this renewable power is delivered safely to customers.

Electric Vehicle Fast-charging Rate

We have created a unique rate structure for fast-charging station sites to make charging electric vehicles more affordable for our customers.

Electric School Buses

CMP is providing technical support to USM students investigating electric vehicle school buses, where in addition to eliminating carbon emissions, energy can be stored in the batteries of school buses and provided back to the power grid.

Efficient Electricity Delivery

We are conducting a conservation voltage reduction pilot that optimizes electricity voltages to help reduce energy consumption.
